Day 10 Bhaltos -Lewis
We are now tent residents in Cnip near Bhaltos in west Lewis, on a grassy campsite in the dunes above the beach 'Tràigh na Beirigh'.
The fine weather yesterday gave magnificent views over white beaches and a sparkling blue sea to the island in the bay. We went by narrow winding roads to the nearest shop in Timsgearraidh at the end of Glen Bhaltos for supper shopping and then on to Carnais to book a meal for tonight at a dining auberge of fine repute overlooking Uig Bay.
I was up and out early this morning before my fellow campers were awake and walked along the shore in the peace which seems to exist at such an early hour with fair weather, but after going back to bed for another hour, the wind had risen and the rain swept in.
As I write now in the car, the tent is struggling manfully against the guy ropes and our proposed walk is not going to happen. We are driving back to Timsgearraidh to the community shop for an Internet connection and then continuing to the road end at Aird.
Our plans today have been scuppered by the weather which has really closed in with rain and low mist. I think a lot of reading in the car will follow.
I have been told to say that His Lordship, a man who has weathered many winters and Scottish summers, remains positive and cheerful under adverse circumstances. He is also the man who happily tramps through worse conditions than this on Wednesdays, smiling at the challenge, but views the weather differently when on holiday with me.
This mural on the gable end of a cottage in Bhaltos made us both smile.
