Diary of an Edinburgher

Archie hears some awful noises...

Another dreich day - when will it end? - although I know it’s my fault for buying a barbecue…

Today we took the bus into town and walked through the Gardens. This was perhaps too many sensory experiences all at once. It was bad enough for me!

No, he did fine - there weren’t many people on the bus each way, and indeed a couple of nice folk actually acknowledged him. In front of us on the way back was a man holding a toddler. This toddler’s big brown eyes peeped over his shoulder at Archie - I held Archie up for the toddler to see. It would have made a lovely photo, but I needed three arms.

I carried Archie on the busy street, but there was nobody in the Gardens, although rather a lot of fag ends for Archie to investigate. He saw a squirrel, quite close by. Well no, actually he didn’t. The squirrel saw him.

He heard lots of awful noises - a pneumatic drill, an ambulance siren, people coughing and shouting, lots of traffic.

But the worst noise of all was the lone piper! We hurried past him as fast as we could.

I can hear him snoring now. The French Open and a bag of Maltesers is calling me. Who cares about the weather...
