A Twofer
Two for the price of One!! This is a beautiful Four Spotted Chaser head to head with a female Banded Demoiselle, there was no fighting, they were just keeping and eye on each other.
As the sun was out I took myself off to a nature reserve that I haven't been to for some time, at first it was really disappointing as there were hardly any insects or wildlife and all the hides had lots of people in them (I think there was some kind of group outing that I had stumbled across - bad timing). I persevered with my stroll anyway and ended up at the little visitor centre which has a tiny garden area with a small pond which was teeming with dragonflies and insects. I was busy snapping away when I saw the ranger approaching and I thought I was going to get told off for clambering over a log pile to get to the back of the pond where the lighting was better but instead he gave me an in depth lesson on the species found in the pond. It was really informative and I thoroughly enjoyed it even if I couldn't quite get a shot of the Great Crested Newt and the Scarce Red Eyed Damselfly that he pointed out to me. Lesson over I began to climb back over the log pile and missed my footing almost finding myself up to my cheeky bits in murky pond water - fortunately I managed to save myself in a rather undignified fashion but at least I didn't disturb any pond dwellers and I can't imagine that the ranger would have been so nice and friendly had I plummeted into their tidy little water world. However it would have been worth risking life and limb to get a close up side view of the lovely dragonfly :-))
