Ranville

..was the first town to be liberated just before midnight on 5 June 1944. It is not far from Pegasus Bridge and as part of the D Day commemorations, a total of 300 parachutists jumped out of 6 Hercules aircraft. It was just an amazing sight - I've never seen anything like it. 70 years ago, it was dark and there were gliders, and there were many more parachutists in the sky at the same time. It is very easy to imagine how scared they must have been and the courage it took to jump out into darkness.
