Orrery dress

Yesterday the seaside, today the riverbank. We took the river bus from London Bridge to Greenwich. My last attempt to do this in December had been foiled by horrendous weather, but today the sun shone in a sky full of fluffy cumulus, with not a breath of wind.
Greenwich is a great destination - too much to see in one day. I especially wanted to visit the Royal Observatory, which this year is marking the 300th anniversary of the Longitude Act, the great human endeavour to determine our position and navigate the globe.
A special exhibition called "Longitude Punk'd" is taking place in Sir Christopher Wren's Flamsteed House. Robert Ranking has written a story about the Ancient Commodore and his quest to win the Longitude prize. Eight UK Steam punk artists have contributed dresses, jewellery, drawings and gadgets.
This was my favourite - a ball dress for Margaret Maskelyne, sister of the Astronomer Royal, by Jema Hewit.
