Princes Street Canal

It's not common knowledge, but there was a plan to extend the Union canal from Port Hamilton. The route was to have been along Lothian Road, through Princes Street Gardens and down Leith Walk in a series of locks to Leith. It never happened but Edinburgh would be a quite different city if it had. As it hosed down yesterday, there was enough flood water in West Princes Street Gardens to give some idea of the potential for blips. After I was in the gardens, we took our first ride on the trams and I have to say it was quiet and quicker than the bus along Princes Street. It was quite full and doesn't seem to have taken trade from the Airport bus.
