Fire, Fire ...

This is one of the 15,000 fire alarm boxes in New York. With most over 100 years old, they apparently cost the city about $7M a year in repairs. Successive attempts have been made to remove them, but there seems to be a groundswell of opposition to the idea.

I like walking past them in my neighbourhood ... and they make a great bright blip.
