Joining the dots

Amid the large scale development and construction at the Olympic site I was struck today by the minimalist planting on this patch of desertlike wasteland.

Bright, bold individual flowers - red hot pokers, fox tail lilies, poppies, verbena and alliums, evenly and sparsely spaced in the dusty ground.

Little dots and dashes of colour to connect the landscape with the development all around it. Simple and effective. Job done.
