Galloway Artisans
Tonight as part of the West End Festival, we had a fantastic preview of the Galloway Artisans at the Mackintosh Church. This exhibition of artists and makers based in Galloway, is a unique opportunity to see and buy work created in this remote part of South West Scotland. All the artists have all been chosen for the high quality and creativity of their work and some have exhibited in this year’s Spring Fling Arts Festival. The exhibition includes ceramics, oils, watercolours, prints, textiles which are all beautifully displayed in the unique surroundings of Charles Rennie Mackintosh’s only complete ecclesiastical building.
During the evening I managed to take some photographs of the various artists who are exhibiting. This is Jenny Smith-McOnie on the left and Lou McGill. I even managed a few shots of the artist Avril Paton, who popped by to view the exhibition.
Jenny is a fine art printmaker specialising in collagraph and drypoint. Her current work is inspired by the beautiful scenery of Wigtownshire.
Lou McGill works with a range of materials to explore storytelling and language. Her pieces reflect strong interests in cinematic representation and classic literature. Much of her work is multi-layered, in meaning and format and she is currently exploring mixed media work to incorporate textiles and recycled materials. The Weeping Angel reflection shot on Monday was the work of Lou.
The show is on till the 22 June, so please drop by and see some fabulous art.
