THE BIG ADVENTURE: Day 11
STURT'S DESERT PEA - was first collected and recorded by William Dampier in 1699. It's common name honors Charles Sturt who recorded seeing large quantities of these flowers while exploring central Australia in 1844.
The flowers are about 9 cms in length and grow in clusters on thick vertical stalks.
The darker "eye" of the plant gets darker as the plant matures until it reaches a shiny black. The ones in my blip are immature . They are absolutely stunning "en masse".
It is the floral emblem of the state of South Australia.
