The First Assignment

I took this picture the first day I met David Wickward. Little did I know that my first assignment for the notoriously challenging "Advanced Photojournalism" course would lead me to one of the most amazing stories I have had the privilege of telling.

David Wickward is a 16-year-old disability awareness advocate and has a rare genetic disorder known as TAR Syndrome.

David and I met through a mutual friend who is also a disability advocate. The assignment was "caregiver." In this picture David and his after school caregiver Cyril Barnes, 38, cook dinner as part of David's skills building.
