Unrelated story: Yesterday, early evening, we had a back yard incident. These time of year, moose cows and their new calves are around and about. They often wreak havoc with people's gardens. That's why we don't have much of a garden. We have a 4 foot high back yard fence that keeps Daisy in. Since the foliage in the woods is much more interesting to the moose than our lawn, the moose have never ventured over the fence before......until now. We have a rabbit named Mo in the back yard with a hutch and ramp to a nice little rabbit run. S fed Mo some timothy hay pellets. A mama moose and her baby were in the woods and came close. I went to get the camera for a mama and baby blip. The mama then jumped the fence and then went into the rabbit run. Mo bolted up his ramp into the "safety" of his hutch. The moose then started rooting her nose around the entrance and lid of the hutch apparently attracted by the smell of the freshly opened rabbit food. We could hear Mo jumping around in the hutch in fear. The blip was sacrificed and I grabbed my trusty slingshot and fired off two perfectly aimed shots of steel pellets to the moose's rump at 15 yards. That got her attention. She had no trouble figuring out where the shots came from and she charged us. I'd be lying if I didn't tell you I flinched and dove into the house. Satisfied that she was the victor, mama moose effortlessly jumped back over the fence and left for more inviting forage grounds sufficiently distracted from the rabbit hutch.
"Where did you get the slingshot?" you ask. Well my brother long ago initiated a tradition of every year for Christmas giving me a "dangerous toy". This toy is usually selected from an annual list of the nation's most dangerous toys compiled by some consumer protection advocacy group. Such a list is intended to discourage consumers from buying such toys, but my brother is only titillated by such a list. The slingshot in my possession is one such "dangerous toy" given to me by my brother. Thanks bro'. Mo appreciates it.
