2 Lt Sydney Thompson......
......my great uncle.
On this special day I thought I should pay tribute to him.
This poor photo is of his plane, captured by Max Muller, who is standing next to it.
The report on the day says that his squadron had just lost three pilots in a dogfight east of Seclin. Meanwhile Sydney was attacked by Offstvtr. Max Muller of Jasta 28 and the German's superior fighting experience soon forced him down and his aircraft (Martinsyde 7276) became Muller's evidence for his claimed 26th victory.
Sydney was captured and brought home at the end of the war. He died aged 21 on 26th January 1919. A brave man.
