St. Joseph's Christian Methodist Episcopalian Church is just a few houses down and accross the street from the Hargraves Community Center in Northside. The predominantly-African American church is a hub for community work in the neighborhood. "Historically, St Josephs was one of the places where the civil rights marches were organzed," said Pastor Lavisha Williams. "We have tried to be a social presence within the community." During Survivor Sunday, a special Sunday service to honor parishioners who have survived cancer, Williams embraces one of her parish's "warriors."
