Sunset on a moving day of remembrance.

Have caught bits of todays 70th Anniversary of the D Day Landings on the tv, and have felt myself filling up with tears from the stories of courage and bravery shown by so many young soldiers. It also made me think of my granddad who i loved dearly,up until today i never realised he had taken part in D Day. I had known he was in the Army, i used to love looking at my grandma's big photograph of him in his uniform. i can not ever recall him talking about the war, and has started a bit of a ticking in my head...i feel another delve into my family history project coming along.

So this photo is for my Granddad Bywater, miss you every day.

thought this was fitting for today too

Do not call me hero,
When you see the medals that I wear,
Medals maketh not the hero,
They just prove that I was there.
Do not call me hero,
Now that I am old and grey,
I left a lad, returned a man,
They stole my youth that day.
Do not call me hero,
When we ran the wall of hail,
The blood, the fears, the cries, the tears
We left them where they fell.
Do not call me hero,
Each night I stop and pray,
For all the friends I knew and lost,
I survived my longest day.
Do not call me hero,
In the years that pass,
For all the real true heroes,
Have crosses, lined up on the grass.
