Port Arthur

So today I visited the furthest South I have ever been (and probably will ever go) on the globe. Port Arthur was originally established as a convict colony for the worst convicts (often repeat offenders from the other colonies). The conditions the convicts lived in would have been appalling - let alone the weather (don't let the blue sky fool you - didn't get above 10degress all day - the breeze from the Antarctic was just something else). The settlement or what remains of the settlement really is fascinating - I love this stuff but even my sisters who aren't that excited by it had a great day. Highly recommend it. This is the chapel which was in operation every Sunday during the period - in it's hay day it apparently would hold a congregation of up to 1000 people. These days it is an amazing example of stone masonry of the time. So many other blip options but I thought this one depicted the days offerings pretty well.
