Let's go fly a Kite
Up where the air is bright, let's go fly a kite and send it soaring.
Kite flying a a big hobby of mine, it's fun and relaxing, but today we met a different type of kite.
Red kites fairly uncommon in England, but in Wales they set up a feeding programme to help protect the species they became extinct in the 1600s as they got classed as vermin and the species were nearly wiped out.
But in 1999 they decided to do a conservation plan to help reintroduce the kite.
Each day at 3pm the kites (as many as 250 sometimes) turn up to be fed meat from a local butchers.
Today roughly about 80 turned up.
It was a real sight to see but a little un nerving as I remember watching Alfred Hitchcocks The Birds.
With wingspans up to 2 metres they fly down and catch a meal on the move.
Thankfully they wouldn't eat an adult rabbit as they aren't heavy enough to attack something like that.
So Roo was fairly safe... He wasn't going to be lunch:)
