Coot afloat.
COMMON COOT
Black with shield and bill of white,
A coy friend of a reeded sight,
On lakes and rivers and parks too.
To feed is but to easy woo.
A summer heat to soak up best,
When you're not on your reeded nest,
Bobbing diver of the lake,
To see is but to always wake.
To pray mankind will ever heed,
This is what the bird does plead,
When you hear the calling hoot,
Of a little common coot.
