Deco Diva

Tonight in the beautiful surroundings of the Mackintosh Church, Kara Wilson gave a stellar performance as Tamara de Lempicka the glamorous and decadent Art Deco legend of 1930s Paris.

During the performance Kara painted a replica of one of de Lempicka’s paintings of a woman named Rafaela, whom she discovered in the Bois de Boulogne. It is amazing to watch the painting come to life in front of your very eyes. A totally amazing experience watching her apply the colour to the canvas and wonder if de Lempicka applied it in the same way, with the same sort of strokes and the same attention or rhythm.

Deco Diva is a loving and passionate tribute from an avid fan. Kara, who is credited with the direction as well, adapted the play from Passion By Design, a 1987 biography by Tamara’s daughter, Baroness Kizette de Lempicka-Foxhall.

At the end of the show Eric Knowles our MC for the evening auctioned the completed painting. The money raised has gone to support the work of the Mackintosh Society.

It certainly was an amazing evening and a five star performance by Kara.
