Bluegate pond

The wet start to the year has topped up Bluegate pond nicely and it is humming with insects and tweeting with young birds in the reeds and undergrowth.

The pond itself is an old gravel pit, of which there are several on the common. This one is quite enclosed by trees, so is a delightful oasis but it can get a bit stagnant or dried out in the summer.
