SPURWINGED PLOVER
The thing I liked about this shot is the weaponry displayed by the Spurwinged Plover. Thy are a very stroppy bird and can often be seen taking on the Australasian Harrier Hawks in flight with their yellow spurs erect and ready for battle - This shows what they might be like if driven into the enemy !! They have a very noisy raucus cry! and a distinctive yellow facial wattle.
they are like most of the australian birds - raucus and loud ! (unlike NZ birds who are mostly melodic and tuneful( bellbird ). they came across to NZ first in the late 1800's and have been breeding here now since the 1940's.
I do like them !
