Thistle Down

Memorial Day

Memorial Day...a hush, a pause,
Solemnity is cast.
The flame of life is darkened,
For many now...the flag half-mast.

Remembrances come back to us,
At home...in lands afar.
Deep in the thought...we give,
To those who left...in peace and war.

We bring thee...gathered flowers,
And spread our cloak of love.
To tie the bands of mortal life,
As foot-steps tread above.

Sleep...sleep, until God gives command,
And by his loving grace.
We'll take our turn to venture on,
And glimpse again...your face.

Rest on...and on in timeless realms,
The grave will yield...the bloom.
And resurrection will bring forth,
The opening of the tomb.
