Patara

Another Lycian site, this was the centre of the Lycian federation of city states and held the assembly which was considered by Montesquieu to be a model of government. Later the site was developed by the Romans as an important port, of which this was one of the main streets. It is considered the street was pedestrians only - there are no chariot grooves in the flagstones.
