Ghost Moth
This is a female Ghost Moth (Hepialus humuli. It is called a Ghost Moth probably because the male is white and slightly smaller, and has a display flight at dusk. This female has a wingspan of about 6cm (over 2") and the male's wingspan is just under 5cm. They belong to a group known as "Swift" moths (Hepialidae of which there are 5 species in the UK. Worldwide there are approximately 500 species of this group.
