Learning day by day

School Summer Fete

So at opening time (11am) it was absolutely hammering it down. Not an auspicious start, but complete with golf umbrella I took the children up to school anyway. As luck would have it this meant that they didn't have to wait for face painting as few people had turned up at this point. William also won on 'pop a balloon' and then they moved on to the gardening craft. Carys glued some seeds onto card in the shape of a C. Apparently if we lay it on some soil and wet the cardboard thoroughly the seeds will grow. This is William making his cress caterpillar, it was a serious business.

We had an early lunch and then by the time the kids had finished eating the sun had come out so we headed outside. They had a very long go on the swingboats, threw wet sponges at Dain (our sports apprentice) in the stocks and generally wiped me out of money. While they were watching the carnival parade I found the District Commissioner for the Brownies (having had a tip off from one of the scout leaders) and explained Carys's problem. She has taken my number and has said she will investigate where the spaces may be. Phew, one less thing for me to worry about.

At 2pm I took the kids home and then returned to do my two hour stint on the sweet stall. A busy old day, but worth it when we found out that we had raised approx. £6000. Not bad for a school of 270 kids.
