The big rescue

This was the scene from the lake opposite our office this afternoon. A dog had fallen through the ice and into the lake and was trapped for almost an hour. The sounds of his barks and crying were heartbreaking. The Gardai and firemen were on the scene but couldn't rescue him. Eventually a "hero" arrived with a kayak and rowed out to the dog, broke the ice with his oar and put the dogs head and front paws through a life-ring before towing him to shore. The dog was then rushed off to the vet for some intesive heating up!
