Taking a bow
This elegantly bowing tree is the only one left standing after this bit of forest at the foot of Glen Massan was cleared, giving us a much clearer picture of the glen and, incidentally, a much more pleasant walk: previously this bit of track was always chilly and dank. The clearing has also revealed an interesting mound across the glen, with a second, smaller one parallel to it and a little further back - we wondered if this was the terminal moraine of a long-vanished glacier, one that shrank enough to leave a second one before it vanished altogether.
So far, so speculative. The other speculation - would it stay dry? - was disappointed. That darker cloud over the hills to the left deepened and spread, and by the time we were heading back down the glen the heavens had opened and we were soaked.
Again.
