Mono Monday - Letter Boxes
As hosted by Rainie...
Monday seems to have come round quicker than normal. I would LOVE to blip a proper letterbox like some I've seen today but sadly, over here - the post doesn't get delivered to you, you have to go to it. Usually it would be to a main Post Office (one of which happens to be very close to us), but as there is such huge demand, it was necessary to build satellite stations - mainly for small businesses.
In the Gulf, it is normal for individuals to use the Post Office Box of their employer to receive mail. This also saves going to check a private box yourself and also an annual fee of £35. However, it also means your mail is not private and if you change jobs, you have a bit of a headache. Failing that, some restaurants will allow patrons to receive personal mail aka letters from home in their box. This is kept in a prominent place outside so it is easy to check if there is anything for you. Pre email, text messages or Whats App, this would have been the lifeline for many a worker. Different, to say the least.
There are plans underway to have post delivered to the building where you live - provided the landlord has post boxes built in for the tenants. It won't happen in the buildings we live in for sure. And that in a nutshell is our postal system! It used to be quite cost effective and efficient, but sadly not anymore.
So this is our precinct - Karama - near the Shopping Centre which is world famous (true story) with all the usual road furniture you would normally find including stray supermarket trolley(!) and if you look real close, you can just see the front of the Volvo!** :)
Good day at work made better by the fact that a planned team photo shoot for tomorrow has been cancelled. Yipee! :D
PS. We have our own P O Box, but as we only ever receive bills, it only gets checked once a month! Ok, sometimes I get a birthday card. Or two!
** PPS. Got a thumbs up today by a local as he crossed the road. He shouted out - "nice old car!!!"
