D-Day plus 3 plus 70 years
On June 9th 1944 my Grandad arrived on the Normandy beaches. Thankfully he wasn't required on D-Day itself.
Until the end of the war he fought across France, Belgium and Holland. My Grandad drove a Bren gun carrier, he carried a rifle, his bible and rosary beads. Three times he was injured, three times he woke up in a hospital bed, three times he went back to the front.
A quiet humble man, who never spoke poor of those he faced, and never once cheered for the victory that was hard won. He carried out his duty to his King and Country, one of the very many men willing to make the ultimate sacrifice for freedom.
My Grandad came home, to those who didn't We will remember.
