La Diana Cazadora

I set off to see the Monumento a la Independencia, the Angel, our last full day here in Mexico D.F. We have gotten pretty good at navigating the excellent subway system over the past week, so it was a short two train, fifteen minute trip to the closest subway stop and then a quick four block walk to the monument. It is located in the middle of an immense traffic circle (glorieta) and there is no safe way to get across the six lanes of traffic, you just have to time the lights up the road and dash when you think there is time. The inside, containing the remains of Mexican Revolutionary Leaders (like Hidalgo, Morelos, and Allende) was closed, so I couldn't get close to the angel at the top. Instead, I headed off down the road to see La Diana Cazadora, Diana the Huntress. According to the guidebook, Diana was clothed in a loincloth until 1966, when she was restored to the original artist's vision you see here.
