jewel wasp....

Amazing - two days ago I saw one of these stunning little wasps at OM. I'd never seen one before...today there's one on the wall of my house enjoying the sunshine! It's also known as the ruby-tailed wasp or cuckoo wasp. It lays it's eggs in the nests of other bees and wasps. When the jewel wasp eggs hatch the larvae eat the larvae of whoever's nest they are in...they don't sting either apparently...
