Snake in the pondweed

I'm posting some photos from the days in Armenia when I had no wi-fi access. This was taken in one of the ditches at a top bird watching site, the Armash Fish Ponds. I think it is a Dice Snake, Natrix tessellata, a close relative of our grass snake. I like the way it just popped its head out for a few seconds in the middle of this big sheet of pondweed.
