Going Up.....

Dowley Gap locks - Nr Bingley. W. Yorks. UK

A few people asked about the lock after my blip the other day. This shows it in its entirety. The lock is designed for boats like this or one twice the width.

These people were on holiday. The women were working the paddles and gates and the men controlling the boats (as is more often the case than not). After discussing the use of paddles with one of them, I said "I have one more question" - she said "I know what it is: why do men always control the boats?"

She said she did not feel relaxed or confident being in charge of the boat and she liked to keep fit working the gates. But she came across as a very confident and commanding character. So I haven't got to the bottom of it yet by a long way.
