The Great Hall, Edinburgh Castle

This evening was at reception in the Great Hall in Edinburgh Castle which was addressed by the Cabinet Secretary for Health and Wellbeing. The reception was the end of a very successful two days for the International Initiative for Mental Health Leadership event.

You can stand under the Great Hall’s magnificent hammerbeam roof where Scotland’s great and good were expected to honour their king. It was completed in 1511 for James IV. But the chivalrous monarch had little opportunity to enjoy its splendour – he was killed at the Battle of Flodden in 1513, fighting the forces of King Henry VIII of England.

Following the reception, we had a tour of the Honours of Scotland, otherwise known as the Crown Jewels, where I got told off fir trying to get a blip ... you just gotta try, haven't you.

Anyway, a lovely evening was had.
