(Cake) delivery

What a day!! I have sat in the driving seat of my car for seven hours in total. My idea of hell!

Got stuck in heavy traffic on way down to Coalville for a meeting at a primary school for a project I'm working on. Meeting went well and finished earlier than had planned. My pregnant friend Em's waters had broken while I was on the M6 this morning and she was on my mind all morning. As I drove North I couldn't resist a trip across the Midlands to see her - as knew she was back at home after a quick hospital checkup this morning.

I turned up unannounced with cake and magazines and the look on her face was brilliant. We had a lovely cuppa and excited chat about what the next few days will bring. I have had this really strong instinct to see her as much as possible lately as she's reached the later stages of pregnancy. It's a funny, nurturing instinct towards my friend but it's been really powerful. Funny how us females are bonded in times like these!

Took me three hours to Sheffield when I left Em's (my own fault for setting off in rush hour) and was starting to feel really fed up so pulled over and had a McDonalds (including McFlurry) and read a magazine which meant the traffic cleared and I was able to fly (oops, hope no cameras caught me) over the Woodhead Pass home. The scenery was stunning in the Peak District and my iPod seemed to select perfect driving music accompaniments on shuffle!

Finished the day with a few hours work on the laptop on the kitchen table. Looking forward to a day off with Audrey tomorrow now!
