The beautiful Bedrutham Steps, north Cornwall

Though there are 149 slippery stone steps down to the staggeringly beautiful beach, these are not the source of the "steps" in the name .
The name comes from a mythological giant called Bedruthan who supposedly used the rock stacks on the beach as "stepping stones"
Each of the stacks has a name, and from north to south they are Queen Bess, Samaritan island, Redcove island,Pendarves island and Carnewas island.
Samaritan island is named after the Ship "Good Samaritan" that was wrecked there in October 1846 with the loss of nine lives.
It's hard to tell how big this place is in a picture, but if you look closely there are cars parked to the right, and a person on the beach below...it's huge!
On this wild coast salvaged timbers are in practically every church and many buildings.
Apparently an old local prayer or saying was
"Oh Lord spare the lives of poor souls out at sea,
But if there have to be wrecks, please send one to me."
