I spent the evening at the Royal Society of Edinburgh speaking about Research Funding in an Independent Scotland and answering questions. The President, Sir John Arbuthnot, presided inside and ( here) outside in George Street. He and I have worked on a number of things together over the past few years.

Earlier I visited Wester Hailes Education Centre, met apprentices in Glasgow 's Kelvin College and spoke to students .

Then - back in Edinburgh - I and other ministers met with a delegation from the Convention of Scottish Local Authorities .
