Rising damp
This paddock (field) used to be used for winter grazing, however since the earthquakes it no longer drains - this has happened at our place too, where the lawn no longer drains. This is caused by liquefaction coming up almost to the surface, and then hardening into a pan or layer, which is impervious to water, which then just collects on top and makes a lake. So many hidden effects slowly becoming apparent.
