Sunday Tea
Another fire picture today, but then we're not really venturing far from home. I've never been more thankful to have a wood burner than this week, what with all the cold weather, plus the added advantage of being able to close the doors and seal the flames in. One of our neighbours over the road had to call the fire brigade last week.
She'd lit a fire but noticed there was rather a lot of smoke, so had thrown a jug of water over the fire and then retired to bed. The next morning the smoke was still there and a call to the fire service resulted in the local firemen taking half her front room apart before finding the seat of the fire. A small spark had somehow gone through the firebricks and had set fire to the joists in her home. She and her family were incredibly lucky. She didn't have batteries in her smoke alarm that worked and if she hadn't thrown the water over the fire, the firemen said the house would have gone up during the night - the water had slowed the progress of the fire down.
Check your smoke alarm batteries people. Please.
