So this is home to our leafcutter bees. It is actually a purpose built bee box designed to be hung up outside. However this one was abandoned in a wooden box in our greenhouse, which the bees seem to love. They make cone shaped plugs out of leaves which they pull inside a hollow or tube, in this case bamboo, making a cigar-shaped nest from which a young bee will later emerge. The adults are busy going backwards and forwards, carrying leaves as in yesterday's picture.
