The beginning of the end
There it was, going, when I looked out the window this morning. A stream of water was coming down the waste pipe from the gutter, large tracts of snow had already turned to slush, and it was all beginning to look like a typical snowfall from the old days, when things would stay white for a day or two at the most and then turn slushily dirty and mucky.
The change was remarkable, since there'd been further snow showers late last night and conditions looked worse than ever around midnight. I decided there was no reason at all not to venture out and go over to Carl's place. Despite the beginning of the thaw, the forecast still warned of further snow to come later in the day, so left the car at home, walked to Killester, and got the DART. Carl cooked a delicious lunch of lamb, which was just what I needed after my 20-minute wait for the DART (although the rise in temperature was noticeable at the station, and the wait was more frustrating than chilling).
We watched a couple of episodes of Ballykissangel which Carl had recorded, we met up with friends across the road who called in on their way to a local house party, we did a mini pub crawl (just the two locals), and ended the night in Carl's Kino watching two episodes of Life on Mars. A great day.
