A Sky Full of Stars

Tonight I attended the Glasgow School of Art Degree Show, just three weeks after the fire that badly damaged the west section of the iconic Mackintosh building, along with work by fine art students.

More than 500 graduating students of architecture, design and fine art are having their work showcased.

This is not a normal degree show. It cannot be. The School of Fine Art that was based in the Mackintosh building has put together what it calls a showcase for those of its students whose degree work was caught up in the fast spreading inferno.

A special display of large-scale digital prints of work by all 102 fine art students is being staged at the nearby McLellan Galleries. A special book has been compiled, which will be sold to raise money for those who lost work in the fire.

During the evening in the Reid Building I met up with Joy Bonfield-Colombara, a jeweller and sculpter. I love Joy's work and her attitude to her craft and I am sure she will be a star of the future. I hope you like this shot of Joy taken through this jewellery display dome.

Against at what one point seemed insurmountable odds the GSA staff and students should be applauded for all their endeavours in creating this showcase event.

Many thanks for getting my shot to the Spotlight yesterday. Much appreciated.
