Kamieniec Palace

Built in the French Baroque style in 1720 by English architect, John Callas, with 12 chimneys and a glazed green tiled mansard roof with French style gardens. Destroyed by Soviet troops in 1945, a sad and inaccessible sight.

Earlier we stopped to look at Sztum Castle. It wasn't really open but we could walk round. I spoke to some swordsmen who were based there and had been active in Malbork yesterday. Some buildings are still in 'normal' use. There's a pizzeria and a computer firm there. It was previously used as a court and a prison.

Another slow journey. We stopped in Mikolajki to eat with still another 2 hours to travel. It was absolutely sweltering. I was lucky to observe the parking man as we walked down the hill. I bought the parking ticket but won my protest about returning to the car to display it.

We arrived back with some shopping bought in Augustow. It was rather a long journey all told.
