Early morning potting
I was up and out early to try and capture (photographically) some gull chicks. They eluded me but the solitary fisherman checking his lobster pots captured me instead. What better way to seize the day? Most of these guys have regular jobs in the building trade but a few crustaceans make a nice little extra earner.
Do have a listen to this sea shanty band made up of regular working chaps from the Cornish fishing village of Port Isaac who have sung together for the past 15 years. I love their mature, weathered faces and natural voices blending in a harmony that reflects the enduring brotherhood of the sea. Tragically two men involved in the band were killed last year in an accident that had nothing to do with the sea.
They're called Fisherman's Friends and this song, Mary Anne, was released earlier this year in memory of the singer who died.
