DIY made easy

I had to put a new curtain pole and some curtains up in the spare room today as I have family staying next weekend. One of the bits I used to hate about DIY was fiddling about with rawl plugs. They always really bug me, whether it's going in squint, not going in deep enough or whatever they just really annoyed me.

Fortunately I don't get annoyed by them any more since a friend grabbed me a box of these from Screwfix. You just mark out where the screws are going to go in, ideally with the sharp end of the screw so you leave a wee indent Next you fit a Philips head screwdriver bit to your drill or power driver and pop one of these on the end of it. Line up the wee sharp bit of this with the mark you have made on the wall. Next you just lean your weight against it to start it going in a little bit then let the drill do its job.

They screw right in until they are flush with the plasterboard and provide a far stronger hold than rawl plugs. The best bit is that the screws still have a little bit of give until they are right the way in so you can put then in most of the way then check that the thing you are putting up is level and lined up properly. If it's a wee bit off you have enough give to move it about a little bit before you tighten it up fully.

Great stuff.
