Papal view

Those clever Spoletans have only installed an escalator to take you from the lower to the upper town. Ingenious. (It reminds me of a time when a particularly gullible friend believed a fellow traveller who told her that they had just out an escalator up the side of Ayers Rock)

The highest point is a fort built to secure papal supremacy in ye olde medieval times, which was turned into a prison after the unification of Italy and is now restored to nearer its former glory. Worth visiting if only for the views.

It has been a very relaxing week with great food and wine. Homeward bound tomorrow.
