Peterstone Coarse Fishing Lakes

Since 1996 Peterstone has become one of the most popular venues in this part of Wales and three other smaller waters have been added alongside. The original 12-acre lake is now being transformed into a specimen water by the Birch syndicate, though tickets are available to non-members during the day.

Plans are afoot to create at least one large sunken reef, which would be weeded to provide a useful breeding area and give the fish something to rummage through. Carp well over 20lbs are a regular feature in the log-book with loads approaching 20lbs. A good mix of species is available with loads of silver fish and plenty of real “clunkers” to pursue, though goodness only knows what’s in here altogether. The largest so far have been a 10lb bream, many tench to 8lb and plenty of rudd to 2.5lb.
The roach get rather bigger with a top weight of 3.5lb. The 36 sturdy pegs are equally spaced around the lake, none of them being very far from one of the comfortable huts which provide shelter during squally days on this open, windswept coast. Three smaller pools have recently been opened, one of which, the Willows Carp lake is dedicated to carp and holds many varieties up to 20lb. The Pencil and Swan lakes have been stocked with the novice in mind, holding very large numbers of a good mix - orfe and small barbel also being in residence.
