This year, on 26th August, this man will have been married to his wife for seventy years!

He was one of the workers that helped to build the Mulberry Harbour for the D-Day landings. The project was so secret that not even the workers knew what they were building. He happened to be working inside one of the sections when it took a direct hit from an enemy bomb. It took a day to get him out, and this is why his hearing is shot to bits.

He started the family construction business in Canning Town, having to sell it when he was fifty-nine due to being diagnosed with cancer. His next birthday will see him turn eighty-nine...
