I heard from some of our advisory group today that 15 years ago there was much discussion about the challenges facing and questioning our ‘cosy heritage’ picture.

So we spent much of today looking again at what constitutes heritage with many more questions coming up.

Are there new versions of democratic history?

Is there a growing awareness by the marginalised of the power of representation?

Do we have an increasing sense of culture as determinant identity?

Have we decreased the acceptance of the right of authority to authenticate, interpret, classify and evaluate?

Does our image of today constirute heritage?

Questions, questions, maybe tomorrow there’ll be some answers.
