Sir Archibald McIndoe (1900-1960)

At long last we have a memorial to the great man, Sir Archibald McIndoe. The inscription below his statue, which was unveiled this week by the Princess Royal says 'He led a pioneering team whose treatment gave the lives back to severely burned airmen of the Guinea Pig Club and other casualties of WWII. East Grinstead - The Town That Did Not Stare'
When these brave men ventured into the town no mirrors were to be seen in any of the pubs so that for a very brief time they could forget their dreadful wounds. Today this is still a pioneering hospital for the treatment of burns and plastic surgery.
